CPD Action Endorses Bernard Williams, Rick Krajewski, Nina Ahmad in Pennsylvania and Sandy Nurse in New York

WASHINGTON, DC -- Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPD Action) a national network of more than 50 community organizing groups across the country, announced the endorsement of four progressive candidates in Pennsylvania and New York. CPD Action endorsed Rick Krajewski and Bernard A. Williams for Pennsylvania State Representative, Nina Ahmad for Pennsylvania Auditor General, and Sandy Nurse for New York City Council. 

“These candidates have a record of unwavering commitment to their communities. They are committed to representing so many of us that have been kept at the margins,” stated Natalia Salgado, Chief of Civic Engagement at the Center for Popular Democracy Action. “Our network is backing true champions down the ballot who are willing to roll up their sleeves and do work to address the structural communities that have left Black and Brown working people locked out of resources and opportunity. We must look beyond a federal scope and acknowledge the power that our personal experiences have not only to center our voices but to effect palpable change in states.” 

Bernard A. Williams, running for Pennsylvania State Representative, HD 198, works as a payroll consultant and serves his community as a council member of the 39th Police District Advisory, and as chairperson for the Youth Aid Panel of the District Attorney’s office. His campaign is grounded in his hope to be an advocate for education, social justice, and economic development for Pennsylvania. 

Rick Krajewski, running for Pennsylvania State Representative, HD 188, serves his neighbors as a criminal justice organizer, educator, and artist. His work is centered on the fundamental value of courage and commitment to his West Philly community, hoping to transform existing structures of inequality. 

Nina Ahmad, a candidate for Pennsylvania Auditor General, has been a fierce advocate for women and communities of color in her multiple roles in local nonprofits, including the Philadelphia chapter National Organization for Women (NOW). Her election would make her the first woman of color to serve as a state-wide executive in the Commonwealth’s 233-year history. Running in New York’s 37th district, 

Sandy Nurse, candidate for New York City Council, District 37, has worked for over a decade as an organizer to build power for immigrants and working-class people. She’s brought cultural and educational resources to the frontline communities she fights alongside.  

The network has made several other down-ballot endorsements in Texas, West Virginia, Georgia, and Illinois. Last year, CPD Action made its first presidential endorsement for Bernie Sanders.
