CPD Action Endorses Nora Vargas in California and Kim Foxx in Illinois

WASHINGTON, DC -- Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPD Action), a national network of more than 50 community organizing groups across the country, announced the endorsement of three progressive candidates in high-profile congressional races in California and New York: Nora Vargas for San Diego County Supervisor for District 1 in California; and Kim Foxx for Cook County State's Attorney in Illinois. 

Nora Vargas has been a healthcare advocate in the San Diego-South Bay area for years, and was recently endorsed by ACCE Action for her campaign for San Diego County Supervisor. Her campaign is focusing on progressive solutions to the housing crisis, environmental justice, community investment and implementation of restorative justice programs. During her time as Cook County State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx has freed more than 80 wrongfully convicted men and women — just one example of the kind of actions you can take as a district attorney. Her priorities are criminal justice reform, bail reform, decriminalizing traffic violations, righting the wrongs of the War on Drugs, and standing up against Trump and the local FOP. She was recently endorsed by Action Now.

We care as much about the person who sits at the highest office in this country as we do about those in Congress who will work day-in and day-out to secure better lives for our communities,” said Jennifer Epps-Addison, Co-Executive Director and Network President of CPD Action. “The candidates we’ve endorsed today stand out because they have proven that they are champions of working families and are pushing to expand a truly popular democracy in their states and beyond. They are working to advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial justice agenda and our network is ready to rally behind them as they fight to build a country that works for all of us!” 

The network has made several other down-ballot endorsements in Texas, West Virgina, Georgia, and Illinois and thrown its weight behind Bernie Sanders in the primary.
