CPD Action Endorses The Squad and Progressive Candidates in Key Races in West Virginia, Georgia, and Illinois

WASHINGTON, DC -- Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPD Action) announced the endorsement of several progressive candidates in key congressional and state races -- including Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas for New York State Assembly, District 34; Stephen Smith for Governor of West Virginia; Lauren Underwood for US House of Representatives from Illinois (IL-14); Kina Collins for US House of Representatives from Illinois (IL-7); and Lucy McBeth for US House of Representatives from Georgia (GA-6).  

“This election is about more than defeating Trump; it’s about the future of our democracy. We care as much about getting a progressive into the White House as we do about the congressional and state officials who will work to secure better lives for our communities,” said Jennifer Epps-Addison, Co-Executive Director and Network President of CPD Action. “The candidates we’ve endorsed today have proven that they are champions of working families. Our network is ready to rally behind them as they continue to fight to advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial justice agenda.” 

The organization also announced the endorsement of all for members of The Squad -- Representatives Rashida Tlaib (MI-13), Ilhan Omar (MN-5), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), and Ayanna Pressley (MA-7).

“From day one, The Squad has modeled the kind of leadership we need in Congress. In their first terms, they have already championed causes that affect Black and Brown communities the most -- from addressing our nation’s housing crisis to redefining public safety and ending our oppressive culture of mass criminalization and incarceration. We look forward to continuing our work together to build a stronger, more inclusive country for us all.” 

The network is set to make more endorsements over the course of 2020. The group is also throwing its weight behind Bernie Sanders in the primary as the candidate best positioned to make real, structural change and address the interlocking systems of capitalism, patriarchy, and racism that affects this country.
