WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPD Action) joins other grassroots organizations - including Indivisible, MoveOn, Need to Impeach and Stand Up America - in demanding Congress launch a formal impeachment inquiry into the president of the United States. The network released the following statement from Co-Executive Director and Network President Jennifer Epps-Addison:
“Black and Brown communities are on the front-line defending our democracy -- fighting back against systematic injustice and fighting forward to propel America into a country where we all have the freedom to thrive. While our communities are hyper-criminalized, Congress has yet to hold this administration accountable for its criminal and unconstitutional actions.
The President of the United States has committed impeachable offenses and we must act to hold him accountable.
As a network of Black and Brown-led grassroots organizations working to advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial justice agenda, we stand with the millions of Americans across the country in demanding a full impeachment inquiry into the President of the United States.
We have no time to waste. Not while the President’s rhetoric and actions put the American people in more danger each day.
Much like the Watergate scandal, this is a critical moment in our nation’s history. How we act today will determine the future course of our democracy. Unlike Nixon, President Trump has no intention of stepping down. In fact, in a dangerous step towards fascism, he’s already calling for a third term on the campaign trail. Congress must act decisively to protect our country, and lean into the political power harnessed by Black and Brown communities. Together we can demonstrate how powerful our popular democracy can be and how committed we are to protecting it.”
