Ana Maria Archila: Democrats Must Reject Deportation Machine
“Unacceptable” to fund CBP, ICE, and Propel Trump’s Deportation Forces, according to CPD Action’s Ana Maria Archila
New York, NY – In response to Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Congressional Democrats latest proposal to increase spending for Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and ICE, Ana Maria Archila, Co-Executive Director of the Center for Popular Democracy Action, released the following statement:
“The proposal put forth by the Conference Committee in Congress is unacceptable. Funding the same inhumane deportation machine that has put children in cages and separated families is dangerous and shouldn’t be on the table.
“Make no mistake, every single dollar that is allocated for ICE and Border Patrol, two rogue and dangerous agencies, will result in more deaths at the border, more humans in cages, and more families torn apart.
“Our families and our lives are not bargaining chips and should not be used to satisfy Trump’s irresponsible promises to the most radical and white nationalist segments of his base.
“Our families have faced enough violence in the hands of CBP and ICE and Democrats must stand strong and act with moral clarity.”
