Center for Popular Democracy Action Endorses Candidates for Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor, Milwaukee Sheriff

“Milwaukeeans have a chance to close the door on a dark chapter of their history,” says national community organizing network

MILWAUKEE, WI – Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPD Action), a national network of grassroots community organizations, released the following statements from Co-Executive Director and Network President Jennifer Epps-Addison endorsing Mandela Barnes for Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor and Earnell Lucas for Milwaukee County Sheriff:

“Mandela Barnes is a longtime organizer who has fought for a better Wisconsin in the streets and in the legislature. He helped lead the pushback to Gov. Scott Walker's assault on labor rights, and can galvanize young people and communities of color with an unapologetically progressive appeal to equity and inclusion that includes a public option in healthcare, a $15 minimum wage, reforms to let high schoolers pre-register to vote, and the decriminalization of marijuana. Wisconsin badly needs someone in Madison to counteract the anti-labor, anti-immigrant forces running the state. They need someone like Mandela Barnes.

For too long, the residents of Milwaukee have also had to endure their very own hometown Trump: Sheriff David Clarke, a vicious xenophobe who used a sham appeal to law and order to hold the county under a reign of terror. Enough is enough. This year, Milwaukeeans have a chance to close the door on a dark chapter of their history and elect a true progressive who will bring a humane approach to the Sheriff's office. Earnell Lucas is the lone African-American candidate in the race, running against an opponent who is a Democrat on paper only. Lucas will work with community groups around Milwaukee to preserve public safety while ensuring communities of color and immigrants are not stigmatized or discriminated against. He is the right candidate to help Milwaukee turn the corner and truly serve its residents.”
