CENTER FOR POPULAR DEMOCRACY ACTION THANKS SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI FOR TWO DECADES OF DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement that she will step down from House Democratic leadership, Analilia Mejia and DaMareo Cooper, Co-Executive Directors of the Center for Popular Democracy Action, released the following statement: 

“We thank Speaker Nancy Pelosi for two decades of Democratic leadership. In her time as Speaker, she presided over a host of critical political milestones and crises, and two impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump. We thank her for continued support of our organization: Speaker Pelosi was an original sponsor for the CARE Act that we authored, spent hours with our federal power cohort, worked tirelessly with us on the American Rescue Plan Act and public health jobs, and was unreserved in her gratitude for our work to save the Affordable Care Act. Her participation in our work showed that she valued the efforts of grassroots people in owning and shaping their democracy. 

“At this moment, we are committed to building on her efforts and continuing to make meaningful strides as progressive leaders for Black, Brown and working class communities. A new Speaker means new opportunities to push forward a progressive agenda.”
