For Immediate Release

** Analilia Mejia, Co-Executive Director of Center for Popular Democracy Action, is available for interviews by phone or video on the fight for Biden to appoint a Black woman to the Supreme Court.

Statement from Analilia Mejia, Center for Popular Democracy Action Co-Executive Director:

“It's time for Biden to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court, just like he promised us in the election. The historic absence of Black women from the highest court is an affront to Democracy.

“President Biden and Congress must act swiftly to take this historic step and ensure Justice Breyer’s seat is filled by a Black woman and work to create a Court that is more reflective of our diverse nation.

“Ultimately, Biden should expand the court -- but right now he needs to focus on getting a Black woman on the bench. Our organization and our communities won’t rest until it happens.”
